2D1N at Akinabalu Youth Hostel

Because it is one of the most recommended places to stay in Kota Kinabalu, we decided to stay for 2D1N at Akinabalu Youth Hostel. The location is ideal for guests who want to walk around the city. It’s right across the Atkinson Clock Tower, a famous landmark in the city. They have a clean, beautiful, well-ventilated and spacious lounge area and lobby. There are two computers in the common room that guests may use for free. Internet access is also free.

They provide 24-hour reception and security. Only guests with the passcode and the staff can get past the metal gates of Akinabalu Youth Hostel. When we were there, the woman behind the counter was extremely helpful and professional. Upon check-in, she gave us a free city map, our room key, and the linen for our beds.

We stayed in a dorm-type room when we were there, so we shared it with three other females. The room was a bit cramped when we entered because the other occupants had already settled in. The only available beds were the two top bunks, so we had a bit of difficulty fixing our things in the dark without disturbing our sleeping roommates. That aside, the shared areas are well-kept and spacious, including the bathrooms, and the establishment is littered with cute animal carvings and plants.

Come morning, we were unsure what to do with breakfast. But as it is with other hostels, everything was laid out in the kitchen; all we had to do was prepare the food ourselves. We sat at the window while the other guests lounged on the couch, watching cable TV. We filled our stomachs with strawberry jam and butter on toast, spicy noodles, and tea.

Our 2D1N stay at Akinabalu Youth Hostel was a good experience. For those looking for an affordable and clean place to stay in Kota Kinabalu, you might want to check the place out.
